Self-Motivated

Self-Motivated

self-mo·ti·va·ted
[self-moh-tuh-vey-tehd] noun
initiative to undertake or achieve a task or activity due to one’s own interest.

To be motivated to do something without another’s input is a strong force. Lack of self-motivation is something that I have struggled with for a very long time. When I become interested in something, I don’t seem to do it unless it’s for someone else or if someone asks me about it. This has inspired me to explore this in other people and find out what their driving forces are.

To do this, I decided to showcase each of my subjects in two different environments. The first photograph is in a work setting showing the person doing what they are paid to do; the other setting is more relaxed showing the subject doing something they do for enjoyment, something the choose to spend their free time doing. They may love their profession but their main motivation for going to work everyday is the fact that they get paid. Something they choose to spend time doing, such as their featured hobby, gives them a good feeling, or some other benefit, since they have don’t for a long time and return to doing it again and again. Each subject was asked to answer a set of questions about their personal motivation for continuing their chosen hobby.
